SEASTARS is a Horizon Europe project developing modular, low- and zero-emission solutions for ship retrofits and newbuilds across inland, short-sea and deep-sea shipping.

The project combines alternative fuels, hybrid propulsion, energy-saving devices, carbon capture and digital tools to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency.

Using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SEASTARS is creating a Platform-as-a-Service that supports shipowners, shipyards and technology providers in comparing options, planning phased decarbonisation pathways and assessing technical, operational and investment trade-offs. The project targets at least 30% well-to-wake GHG reduction and 20% energy efficiency improvement on eight market-ready vessel designs.
