Through the #METAVASEA project, HELMEPA is listening to the people driving the East Mediterranean maritime transition: seafarers, shipping companies, ports, suppliers, and coastal communities. Three findings stand out.

• 70% of seafarers flag crew fatigue, driven by added responsibilities and regulatory workload, as their number one safety concern.
• Shipping companies are aligning with the IMO net-zero strategy, yet implementation remains uneven, with operational efficiency still leading the way.
• Soft skills are emerging as the new strategic priority: leadership (45%), teamwork (43%), and critical thinking (19%) confirm that human capability must evolve alongside technical expertise.
